ABOUT MOVEMENT ANATOMY
OUR STORY
Movement Anatomy was founded with the mission to make anatomy and physiology (A&P) knowledge accessible, practical, and relevant for health, exercise, and movement professionals. Recognising that traditional A&P texts were either too academic or overly simplified for the needs of movement professionals, we set out to design a solution that bridges the gap between theory and real-world application.
Having taught wellness and exercise science for decades, Mark Vella, co-founder and director of Movement Anatomy, recognised the anxiety that students face when studying anatomy, particularly when it’s not directly linked to their professional needs. In response, we redesigned our approach to movement anatomy, making it simpler, more practical, and designed specifically for movement professionals like Pilates, yoga, personal trainers, and sports coaches.
In 2018, we launched our innovative, case-based learning model. This was the first of its kind, making anatomy and physiology more enjoyable and relevant to real-world practice. By 2020, we expanded our reach by launching movementanatomy.com – an online platform that offers the same student-friendly approach combined with blended learning, making our courses accessible to movement professionals worldwide.

When I began teaching anatomy, I realised it needed to be approached in a way that movement professionals could understand and use. The knowledge shouldn’t be overwhelming, it should be empowering.

I've taught broadly across exercise and health sciences from sport sociology to natural therapeutics, from massotherapy to emotional intelligence; however, anatomy, physiology and performance remain my favorites. Sharing this inner journey with students has been a privilege for which I remain grateful for.
